“I Miss You, Lord.”

I said those four words this morning on my way to work. It’s strange to say those words when you’ve been in the Word, in prayer, and in church “religiously.” It’s even more strange when you know all the little (and big) ways your prayers have been answered lately. I’m in a really good place. I’m the epitome of #Blessed right now. Somehow this morning, though, I was missing Him. I haven’t “felt” His Presence in a while, despite all the amazing things happening in my life.

I know people with dads who spoil them. They ask anything they want, and the answer is always yes, no matter the cost. However, many of these people complain of a lack of closeness with their dad. Sure, they get everything they need and want, but even with everything they’ve asked for and received, the miss the person. They miss the connection.

I was missing the connection…why?

When Jesus taught and miraculously fed the five thousand, they came back the next day looking for Him. When they found Him, He immediately called them out.

“‘Jesus Answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.'”

John 6:26, New International Version

Was I looking for Him because of what He did for me? Had I allowed myself to look for the signs/food instead of where they came from? Was I just like those people in the Bible that I initially scoffed at? Yep, I sure was. As soon as the thought crossed my mind, I knew it was time to repent. I had to ask myself a few questions, and I challenge you to do the same:

If God never answered another prayer, would I still make Him Lord of my life? Am I looking more for what He gives me than His Presence in my life? What am I willing to give up to ensure His Presence remains with me?

Are you missing Him, too? Seek Him while He can be found…
