“…that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”Ephesians 3:16-19
When we tell a friend a secret, we whisper. We motion discretely for them to come to our side and we move in close. Our secret isn’t for everyone and must be handled with care. I feel God whispering to us. I see Him motioning to us and giving us the look to come to Him. “I will guide you with My eye” (Psalm 32:8b).
I sense Him drawing closer as we follow the mandate to “dig in.” He is faithful to His Word, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:2). Remember “it is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.” The Lord has mysteries to tell, and it’s our privilege to listen.
I believe we are going to be privy to a deeper understanding of His love as we continue to dig deep and give Him our time. The prayer of Paul to the Ephesians has been on my heart since Sunday night and has become my prayer this week. We truly have no idea how deep or wide or long or high His love really is. We couldn’t possibly understand the fullness of the love of Christ, but I believe God is going to give us glimpses and tiny revelations (though to us they may be mind-blowing).
Don’t give up, don’t become complacent, don’t atrophy those spiritual muscles. Be in constant prayer, repent of any sin, get into the Word, and give Him quiet time. Sit and wait on Him to speak, to move you, to lay things on your heart. Ask Him to reveal Himself in a way you haven’t known before and believe He will answer that prayer as you continue in obedience to Him. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16b).
Oh, to be a church that is filled with all the fullness of God. Oh, that we might thoroughly know Him, be rooted in Him, and have complete knowledge of His all-encompassing love for us. And, oh, that we would give Him our affection, our attention, our whole heart.
Dig in deeper, church.
Prayer: Father, We pray that You guide us with Your eye and that we see where You are leading us. Whisper in our ears the mystery of Your profound love for us. Help us to see You motioning for us to draw near. Teach us to care more about Your secrets than our own desires. Thank you for giving us an example of obedience in Your Son, Jesus. We ask for and thank You for the knowledge of Your love of which we are about to receive deeper revelation. We pray that together we would gain that understanding and that we would learn through that knowledge how to better love one another. Thank you, Lord. We love You and praise You. Amen.
