This morning as I was driving to work, I was thanking God for everything He’s given me and done for me. It is amazing (to say the least) that the God of all this would even think to give me anything more than my life and breath. Anything else is like icing on the cake.
You know those moments where you have a connection with God over something silly? He has the greatest sense of humor. My son said once that Jesus probably knows the best jokes cause he’s been around so long and knows everything. I’d have to agree with him. Anyway, this was one of those moments. Like God paused, waiting for me to get it. Not that it was a joke per se, but He was waiting for me to say with understanding,
“Thank You for cake!”
We had a good laugh at that, and I didn’t even get the connection until I started writing this that it was even more funny because I’m giving up sweets right now. Ha! He truly knows everything.
This is a short-ish message today, because really what else is there to say? God gave us life and breath, and as if that weren’t enough, He gives us every good gift we have. Praise Him for His faithfulness. Praise Him for His grace. Praise Him for His love, His protection, His provision. Praise Him for His gift of children, His gift of family, His gift of friends. Praise Him for His gift of this world that He created just for us. Praise Him for His gift of a job that pays even some of the bills, His gift of the car you drive, the house you live in, the food you have in your fridge or pantry (do people still use pantries?). Praise Him for anything and everything else you can think of. Go ahead! Right now! And don’t stop! As often as you can think of it – and you will have to train yourself to do it – PRAISE HIM.
Even praise Him for the hard stuff like pain, grief, sickness. Not that He gave you those things (because the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but He has come to bring life and life abundant), but that He is able to see you through those times and one day it will be but a distant memory (if that) in the light of His glory and the incomparable joy in eternity with Him.
“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”Isaiah 25:1
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:6).
Thank you for cake, Lord! And the icing. 😉
